Okay Marlowe, I said to myself, You’re a tough guy. You’ve been sapped twice, choked, beaten silly with a gun, shot in the arm until you’re crazy as a couple of waltzing mice. Now let’s see you do something really tough—like putting your pants on.
– Philip Marlowe, Murder, My Sweet
I’ve always been a fan of the first Golden Age of Television, especially film noir. As a kid, the sight of fedoras, fishnet stockings and cigarettes or their nutty lingo and mid-atlantic accents, all appeared so foreign and so cool. Include murder with a femme fatale or get a little weird, add a vampire or swamp thing, and you’ve got me hooked. There’s something about drama and tension that makes good storytelling and great subjects on canvas.
These two pieces are the start of a film noir series. More will be added as we complete them.
